At Binder, we believe that investing in our people is one of the most important ways we can continue to deliver high-quality wastewater services to our customers. That’s why we’re proud to be launching our new in-house training school, designed to develop our engineering team, strengthen technical skills and create opportunities for career progression.
As a family-run business with over 60 years of experience in the wastewater industry, we’ve built our reputation on the knowledge, expertise and dedication of our people.
With demand for our services continuing to grow, we’re investing in the next stage of our team’s development to make sure we have the skills and expertise needed for the future.
Developing the next generation of wastewater expertise
Our new training school will provide all 33 of our engineers with access to a structured learning and development programme, combining practical, hands-on experience with opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
This includes City & Guilds certification in wastewater operations and maintenance, helping our engineers build on their existing experience while gaining formal recognition for their skills.
The programme brings together classroom-based learning, practical training and workplace assessments, covering key areas such as:
- Wastewater systems and pumping stations
- Wastewater network maintenance
- Health and safety procedures
- Environmental compliance
- Fault diagnosis and problem-solving
- Customer service and professional standards
By combining technical knowledge with real-world experience, we’re helping our engineers develop the confidence and capabilities needed to deliver effective wastewater solutions.
Investing in our people and their futures
For us, the training school is about much more than qualifications. It’s about recognising the expertise already within our business, supporting professional development and creating clearer pathways for career progression.
Shaun Prendergast, Director of HR at Binder Limited, explains:
“We have a huge amount of knowledge and experience within Binder, and we want to make sure we continue to build on that for the future.
The training school gives our engineers the opportunity to develop their practical skills alongside gaining nationally recognised qualifications. For us, it’s about investing in our people, giving them opportunities to progress and making sure we continue to develop the skilled workforce the wastewater industry needs.
We’re proud to be investing in the development of all 33 of our engineers through the training school. It’s a significant commitment for the business, but one we believe will benefit our team, our customers and Binder for many years to come.”
By making ongoing learning a key part of working at Binder, we hope to continue attracting and retaining skilled people who want to build long-term careers in wastewater engineering.
What does this mean for our customers?
Investing in our engineers also means investing in the quality and consistency of the services we provide.
Whether we’re installing a new sewage treatment plant, maintaining a pumping station or diagnosing a fault, our customers rely on our engineers to deliver practical, reliable and professional solutions.
Through our new training school, we’re strengthening the technical knowledge and skills across our engineering team, helping to maintain consistent standards and ensuring our people are equipped to respond to the changing needs of the industry.
Building a stronger future for Binder
The launch of our in-house training school marks an important step in Binder’s continued growth.
Our ambition is to develop a team of 33 fully qualified wastewater engineers, equipped with the knowledge, practical skills and recognised qualifications to support our customers now and in the future.
As the wastewater industry continues to evolve, we’re committed to investing in the people, training and expertise that will help us maintain the standards our customers have come to expect.
