    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? I was recently promoted to the role of Construction Foreman so I have the responsibility of organising customer projects. I also assist on site where needed.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? It has to be the work-life balance, meeting new people and the progression opportunities.

    What’s your desert island disc? Anything by Queen.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I enjoy spending quality time with my family and fishing.

    Meet the Team – Tony

    Tony has worked at Binder for over 6 years. He reveals more about his role as Sales Manager in our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blog.

    How long have you worked at Binder? 6 years

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? I have an early start around 6.45am and spend the morning catching up with emails and follow up calls. Sometimes I will make 2/3 site visits to key accounts and other customers. This means I can tackle any customer queries and ensure projects stay to time and I also visit varied types of properties such as farm estates and country houses, often with complex requirements.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? It’s very varied and the people here make it a great place to work. My job has it’s challenges but they are tackled with professionalism from my colleagues.

    What’s your desert island disc? Start Me Up – Rolling Stones

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I like going on weekend drives and clay pidgeon shooting.

    Meet the Team – Stephen

    Avid Ipswich Town supporter Stephen has worked at Binder for 3 years. He reveals more about his role in our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blog.

    How long have you worked at Binder? 3 years

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? It’s very varied. Somedays I will be visiting customers for repair work and other days I will be looking at breakdowns or servicing appointments. This often involves visiting large properties in the countryside and servicing some of the larger treatment plants.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? It has to be working with such a brilliant team! It’s a welcoming place to work and I really enjoy keeping customers happy by solving their issues.

    What’s your desert island disc? Bob Marley – Exodus

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I enjoy playing football and I support my local team, Ipswich Town.

    Meet The Team – Nathan & Jack

    To celebrate Father’s Day our Meet The Team series focuses on the father and son members of our staff. We meet Philip & Alan, who have been a part of our team for around a year.

    How long have you worked at Binder? 19 months/ 1 year

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? Nathan – I travel the breadth of the county visiting different properties emptying septic tanks and sewage treatment plants. The job is varied so I don’t know where I might be day to day! Jack – I am training with support from my manager James Studd. This involves keeping the company vehicles ticking over, repairing parts, welding and fabrication etc.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? Nathan – It’s got to be the comradery within the team and the banter we have that makes it such a fun place to work. Jack – I agree, it’s definitely great to have the laughs we have as a team.

    What’s your desert island disc? Nathan – Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd. Jack – This is Sleepy Hallow, Sleepy Hallow.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Nathan – I coach young people for two local football teams and I am also secretary of the club. Jack – I play a lot of football and I am a keen Arsenal supporter.

    Meet The Team – Philip & Alan

    To celebrate Father’s Day we meet another father & son duo who have been working in the team at Binder for nearly a year.

    How long have you worked at Binder? 10 months/ 1 year

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? We both make up part of the servicing team, maintaining existing systems and also fitting equipment such as autodials for new systems. We mostly work on residential properties but sometimes we visit larger properties and small businesses across the county and beyond.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? Philip – I like the freedom to get the job done! Alan – I enjoy it all! It’s a hugely rewarding job.

    What’s your desert island disc? Philip – Any chill out playlist on Spotify. Alan – Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Philip – Tinkering with cars of any description! Alan – Currently most of my time is taken renovating my house.

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? A typical day involves managing the tankers as they come into the plant for emptying and ensuring the plant is running effectively and safely.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? I like to take each day as it comes, it’s never the same. The team here at Binder are the best part of the job.

    What’s your desert island disc? It would have to be Bob Marley, One Love.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I spend a lot of time gardening and being in the outdoors.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? I enjoy visiting new places and being outside of an office environment. It’s really rewarding when a customer is really happy with the job, especially when I have solved a problem for them.

    What’s your desert island disc? It would have to be between an 80’s or Country & Western compilation.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I spend a lot of time enjoying walks with my dog Jess, spending time with my family and cycling.

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? I attend various different jobs. Sometimes I will travel to where the construction team have been and wire a system from scratch. I also visit customers who have had a breakdown or need their system checked.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? The varied part of the job – you never know where you’re going to be each day and you get to see places you haven’t visited before.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I train and play football. I also like to go out clubbing with friends at the weekend.

    Celebrating 40 years service

    Treatment Plant Manager Gavin Lockwood celebrated a big work anniversary this week.

    Gavin has worked at Binder for over 40 years and in recognition of his service, owner Wallace Binder presented him with a half sovereign at Binder HQ.

    ‘Gavin has been an integral part of our team ever since he started working for us. His knowledge and experience, combined with his work ethic and dedication to the business is highly valued and we’re all very grateful for his 40 years of service.’ comments Wallace, owner and founder of the company.

    Over the last 4 decades Gavin has worked in a number of roles, evolving throughout the growth of the company. Some of the key milestones he remembers includes the company achieving it’s first BSI accreditations, it’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and his 20 year anniversary.

    ‘I have worked here all my life and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The next milestone is beating the long-service record which stands at just over 50 years!’ says Gavin about his recent achievement.

    Congratulations to Gavin and thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

    Meet the Team – Jamie

    For this week’s ‘Meet the Team’ we speak to Jamie who’s been with the business for over 3 years and operates our newest addition to the Binder fleet!

    How long have you worked at Binder? 3 years 4 months

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? I visit an average of 8-10 customers in a day to empty their sewage treatment plant. My experience enables me to work as a single operator and I drive one of the newest vehicles in the fleet – I am adapting to it’s new high-tech features.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? I really enjoy the fact that every single day is different and although it can be a dirty job, you make customers really happy once the job is done.

    What’s your desert island disc? Anything really!

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I am always busy! If I am not at home with the kids (aged 4 and 6), you’ll find me swimming or cycling.

I travel across the entire county so there’s a lot to see and some amazing places I wouldn’t otherwise visit. I also enjoy the confined space work I do. It’s challenging but hugely rewarding too.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I spend most of my time in the gym or playing football, but I also have a newborn son so he’s keeping me busy!

    How long have you worked at Binder? 4 years and 7 years

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? 

    It’s pretty varied but we install new sewage treatment plants and septic tanks. This involves digging excavations, laying pipes, and operating machinery including diggers and dumpers. We also replace tanks that are at the end of their lifespan. 

    What’s your favourite part of your job? Simon – I feel appreciated here and I just enjoy the job all round! Daniel – The team here are great, there’s a sense of community in the wider team.

    What’s your desert island disc? Both – probably an 80’s compilation.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Simon – I enjoy long walks with the dog. I am also a dab hand at the DIY at home. I am a fair-weather golfer. Daniel – I spend the weekend with my friends and also play football.

    What’s your favourite part of your job? Knowing our clients are delighted with the service we provide and having a happy workforce.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Long walks with my Labrador, watching or playing sports and socialising with friends and family.

    What’s a typical day at Binder for you? 

    I am responsible for handling incoming customer queries and booking services and breakdowns. I manage a team of 30 engineers which involves booking in visits and any special requirements as well as ensuring the team on the ground have everything they need to efficiently carry out their scheduled jobs. 

    What’s your favourite part of your job? Being able to help a customer, no matter how large or small the problem or query might be.

    What’s your desert island disc? My favourite would have to be Car Radio, Twenty One Pilots.

    What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Going to watch the super blues at Portman Road.

    Loyal service celebration

    Binder Ltd are continuing what has become somewhat of a tradition over the last 10 years by presenting beautiful half gold sovereigns to members of staff who have worked for the company for 20 years. 

    Chairman, Wally Binder, is delighted on behalf of the Directors to present both Derek Youngman and Paul Compton with their long service awards.  Derek started with us a tanker driver in 2001. Derek came to Binder’s after 10 years working for the Tolly Cobbold brewery as a drayman. Over the years Derek has become an extremely popular tanker driver amongst our customers, with our scheduling team often being asked for them to send “the man with the beard”.  

    Paul started his time with Binder making fibreglass products and soon went into our construction department which replaces septic tanks for sewage treatment plants into both domestic and commercial applications. After 4 years in our construction department, Paul achieved his HGV license and moved on to become one of our Tanker Drivers becoming a senior Tanker Driver for 3 years. in 2018 a vacancy became available assisting in running our on-site sewage treatment plant. Paul is now an integral part of the team which operates this important part of the business.  

    All the Directors would like to express their gratitude to both Derek and Paul for their stoic commitment to the Binder brand and would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, those who have recently joined and those who have become an integral part of the fabric for their hard work over what had been a very challenging and unprecedented time.  Let’s look forward to many more years together !!!!!
